IMPORTANT: If your home is within a subdivision, check to see if there are any restrictive covenants that prohibit a commercial use.

A Home Occupation is the use of a residential property for a home-based business. They are permitted in most County zoning districts if they meet certain development standards. The home occupation must be inside the residence ... it cannot be detached from the residence.

Site plan approval is not required for properties zoned RUD. For sites zoned RUD, a compliance form must be completed and submitted. All other zones require site plan review and approval. Home Occupation applications are available in the Planning & Development Department. For questions regarding the home occupation process, call 803/642-1520.

Submission must include a completed application, four copies of the site plan, the E-911 address verification form, and the review fee.

Requirements for the Home Occupations are listed in Section 24-13 of the Aiken County Zoning and Development Standards Ordinance and are available upon request.
