Mission:
The protection of lives and property of the citizens of Aiken County through prevention and extinguishment of fires.
The protection of lives and property of persons within Aiken County involved in natural or man-made disasters.
The protection of lives and property of persons within Aiken County through support of mutual aid agreements with other fire departments.

Functions:
There are approximately 22 volunteer departments along with North Augusta Public Safety, Aiken Public Safety and Savannah River Site Fire Department, that provide fire protection to the citizens of Aiken County and the various industries. The Sage Mill Fire Department is in place not only for the Sage Mill Industrial Park, but to augment the various agencies with our resources such as the Aerial device and Pumper. We also participate with the state wide mutual aid agreement as well as the mutual aid agreement with the County's volunteer departments. Sage Mill FD has several automatic mutual aid agreements with Department that serve large Industries and utilizes the Aerial device that we offer. The Sage Mill FD also carries an extrication tool on Engine 2 and rsponds to various calls to assist Aiken County EMS with Motor Vehicle Collisions since we are located at Exit 11 on I-20, this has proven that all citizens traveling through our County can feel safe that we have them covered. The Sage Mill FD does yearly training with Bridgestone Firestone Aiken County Emergency Response Team and has the opportunity to train at BFSC at any given time. Firefighters are also members of the Hazmat team and various Departmental organizations such as the COBRA Team and the SC Fire Academy.

April 1, 2002- FIRST CALL
Sage Mill responded to Aiken City with a crew consisting of Ray Bellamy, Chad Hyler, Mark Visco and Doug Ruben. We were requested to set up Aerial operations for access to the roof of an Industrial building.

Apparatus
The Fire Division operates two apparatus, a 1999 KME Aerialcat aerial device and a 1988 Ford Quality pumper.

Volunteer Opportunities
The Volunteer program is now being organized and will be put into service shortly. We are looking at many different opportunities to serve the citizens of Aiken County. At Aiken County Emergency Services, Fire Division. Volunteers are a very valuable asset to the County as well as their communities that they serve. We look forward to this being a rewarding program.
