Aiken County is taking part in celebrating National County Government Week to bring awareness and understanding about the roles and responsibilities of County Government. Aiken County operates public libraries, jails, and the court systems, just to name a few. They also maintain county roads, bridges, parks and recreational facilities. |

The environment is also important to all counties. This year's theme is "Greening Our Future."
Aiken County has a number of programs to protect and preserve the environment. The development of a Hydrogen Research Center, the establishment of a hydrogen re-fueling station at Sage Mill Industrial Park and participation in the creation of the South Carolina Hydrogen Highway on Interstate 20 from Aiken to Columbia. All of these efforts will assist in "Greening Our Future". In addition, the County's Recycling Program and the newly established Storm Water Program is another part of the county's efforts to keep our environment clean. We ask that each of you do whatever you can to assist us in Greening Aiken County.
For additional information as to what you can do, please view the County Government Week display located in the Complex lobby or contact Aiken County Public Works Storm Water and Recycling Divisions. You are encouraged to work with the county as we continue to develop programs to "Green Our Future". |
