Ribbon Cutting at the Listine Gunter Courtney Building in Wagner

Citizens of the eastern section of Aiken County will no longer travel long distances to receive needed services. Aiken County Council along with the Department of Commerce and the federal government made sure that funds were available to build this much needed human services building. Chairman Ronnie Young commented that the council was more than pleased to do this for the Citizens of Wagener and surrounding towns. Councilwoman Kathy Rawls (resident council member) said the completion of the Listine Gunter Courtney Human Services building was to her a dream come true. The building will house satellite offices of the Department of Social Services, Health Department (DHEC), and Council on Aging.

The building is named after Mrs. Listine Gunter Courtney whose family donated the land for the building. It is said that Mrs. Courtney loved the Town of Wagener and loved the people who lived there.

The dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony took place Sunday, July 16, 2006 with approximately 200 persons attending. Even though the weather was hot, everyone seemed to enjoy the program and festivities. The Women's Club of Wagener prepared the refreshments.
