The Public Works Department is made up of several divisions which are described as follows:
Animal Control Division operates and maintains the County Animal Shelter and enforces State laws regarding animal control.
Roads & Bridges Division maintains approximately 736 miles of dirt roads and approximately 152 miles of paved roads. They maintain right-of way cut backs' along all County roads, retention ponds and existing drainage systems, and installs driveway / drainage pipe along County roads. It is the division's goal to provide all citizens of Aiken County with safe, maintained and easily accessible roadways (whether dirt or paved), drainage systems, and roadway signs.
Solid Waste Division provides facilities for the disposal of household, commercial, industrial, construction waste, and land clearing debris. This division provides resources and educational support for advancement of recycling programs throughout the County. It also provides administration of the Adopt-a-Highway program to minimize roadside debris, and proper waste disposal through Litter Control policies. |
